About the Whispering Gallery

The Whispering Gallery Podcast (the WGP) was established in May of 2019. The kernel, or idea for the podcast was telling the hard-to-believe stories of paranormal, cursed and ghostly art. The title of the podcast plays on the term “whispering gallery” in the traditional sense. The meaning of the term for this podcast is more of a shadowy museum, a place where scary art stories might be whispered and placed in a “gallery” or curated “collection”.

During the first season I was joined by co-host, Emily Nikolaisen-Quayle. From that point on it’s been just me, Suzanne Nikolaisen, and the studio dogs are usually nearby (Boomer and Schatze).

The Whispering Gallery podcast is written, produced and published by Suzanne Nikolaisen in Salt Lake City, Utah in the shadow of the Wasatch mountains.

Where to Find the Whispering Gallery

Hosted on AudioBoom – Listen Online

Episode Teaser: “Did you know the Oracle of Delphi was more than one woman? Much like the maiden, the mother, the crone, it turns out she wasn’t always the young version of the oracle. Laws were passed to protect the women in this role, a requiring to be over the age of 50.

Episode Teaser: “Unnwrap the rich brown paint popular among the pre-raphelite brotherhood known as Mummy Brown. If your skin is crawling it’s for a good reason… The pigment for Mummy Brown a.k.a. “Egyptian Brown” paint was literally made up of ground up Egyptian mummies…”

These two little nuggets of cute are the studio dogs: Schatze and Boomer. I usually give them a treat before I begin recording to keep them busy. With the magic of audio editing, I'm able to keep their barking, trips in and out of the dog door, and jingling tags on the down-low.

Could dogs alert you to the presence of a ghost?

Information Desk

When I completed my illustration degree I was absolutely bummed that I wasn’t going to be learning new things about art anymore. My mom and I had taken an art history class that was cancelled when the teacher became too ill to continue. That little bit I learned about what goes into identifying a piece and -ALL- (or some) of the meaning there opened up this whole other world.

Then there was the story that one of my professors told us in class. He said that there was a time when his dog had been just going off about something and he went to check, and in his studio some of his painting rags were smoldering. It made me wonder about some of the spooky stories related to art… and there are SO MANY! I had to know more… and share!

The Episodes

The “tours” of the gallery are scheduled to publish monthly, but sometimes that deadline has to slide. This is a non-funded, independent podcast. Currently there are no ads to interrupt the stories of haunted art, cursed paintings and why the eyes in some paintings seem to follow you.

The episodes cover vast distances across the world, through time, topics and art mediums. There are stories about ghosts, mysteries, curses and more about the unknown and hard-to-believe.

If you love shows like “In Search of” and books that show you the wonders of the world; spending afternoons wandering the halls of art museums–you may enjoy a visit to the archives of the Whispering Gallery podcast.
